Temperature: up. Sun: out. Road: open. Yes, summer is here. But before you head out on that epic road trip, there are a few things you can do to help make sure your GMC is ready to help you make the most of your journey.

1. Proper engine oil maintenance is important all year round. But before heading to the beach or the mountains, be sure to check the oil in your GMC. Most GMC vehicles are equipped with an engine Oil Life Monitor, which helps determine when it’s time for a change. But especially before a road trip, it’s a good idea to double check your vehicle’s dipstick. On level ground, turn the engine off, wait at least 15 minutes (or 30 if the engine isn’t warm), and make sure your GMC’s oil level is within the range recommended in its Owner’s Manual.

2. To fully enjoy the season’s scenic views, make sure your wiper blades are functioning as they should. Rubber can deteriorate from the harshness of direct summer sun. And it’s possible the blades on your GMC may not have recovered from winter snow, ice and salt. Using two separate buckets for washing and rinsing and starting the job from the roof down to the wheels will help prevent grit, gravel and stones from scratching the paint. And if it’s time to apply a new wax layer, make sure to do so out of direct sunlight, which will also help preserve the paint finish.
