Playing music while outdoors always makes the experience better, regardless if it’s a bonfire with family and friends or a weekend project to reinvent your yard.
That’s why GMC brought even more functionality to the available MultiPro Tailgate with the MultiPro Audio System by KICKER, taking the world’s first 6-function tailgate to 7 functions.
Installed by GMC dealers and integrated with the MultiPro’s inner gate panel, the MultiPro Audio System by KICKER is a 100-watt, exterior audio system with durable weatherproof (IP66 rating. Non-Submersible) components. It includes two 4” coaxial drivers, a compact amplifier and controls, ports for a USB device and AUX cord, and full Bluetooth streaming compatibility.
Here’s how it works:
POWERING ON & CONNECTING
To start the sound system, simply drop the MultiPro Tailgate to its full-width step position. The tailgate remote will then automatically light up, indicating it has been activated. This can be done regardless of whether your vehicle is still running because the sound system operates independently of the infotainment system within the cabin of the truck, allowing you to get clear audio without leaving your vehicle unsecured or your windows down.
Users can then select between three source modes to play audio ─ Bluetooth, AUX or USB ─ by pushing the power button to toggle through the options. The tailgate remote also allows you to control the volume, as well as pause, skip or rewind songs.
BLUETOOTH
To pair a Bluetooth-enabled device ─ such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop ─ place the MultiPro Tailgate’s audio system into pairing mode by pressing and holding down the play/pause button until you see a rapid blue light flashing on the Bluetooth indicator. This means the sound system is discoverable and ready to be paired.
Next, go to the device you wish to pair and look within its Bluetooth settings. Once you see “KICKER” appear, select it. You should then be able to play music through the sound system.
Remember, if your vehicle is powered up, make certain your device is not still connected to its interior Bluetooth system. Otherwise your device will not be able to connect to the sound system within the MultiPro Tailgate.
Also, the Bluetooth range for the sound system is about 100 feet depending on your environment. This gives you the ability to walk around while your device is connected.
AUX
With the AUX port, you can connect the sound system to compatible devices like CD players, radios, televisions and microphones. It does however require an AUX cord.
To connect, simply use the power button to set the source mode to AUX and plug in your device.
USB
The USB port allows you to play WMA and MP3 files from a USB storage device, as well as charge a compatible smartphone even while using the AUX port or Bluetooth to play audio.
Just select USB source mode using the power button and plug in your device to begin charging your smartphone or accessing your music.
CONNECTING A NEW DEVICE USING BLUETOOTH
The sound system will automatically re-pair to the last device it was connected to if it’s within range. In order to pair it to something else, you will have to disconnect it from the original device.
One way to detach a device is to simply select “Disconnect” from its Bluetooth settings. You can also select “Forget this Device”, however, you will have to re-pair it the next time you want to connect. A third option is turning your device’s Bluetooth functionality off. Please be aware this will disconnect any other devices that you are currently paired with, such as your smart watch.
Once your original device is disconnected, you can then pair the new device by following the steps listed above.
TURNING IT OFF
The sound system will automatically power down when the tailgate is returned to an upright position. You can also turn it off and leave the MultiPro Tailgate at its full-width step position by pressing and holding the power button until the lights on the remote turn off.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If you don’t hear music playing once a device is paired to the sound system, make certain the volume on your device is turned up. If that doesn’t work, try turning up the volume on the tailgate. If neither works, double check you’re using the correct source mode.
If you’re using a smartphone and the correct source mode, check your device to see if someone is calling you as this will cause the system to stop all audio. And, if you need to make a call, be sure to disconnect your device from the sound system.
Also, if the sound system doesn’t power on or suddenly shuts off, be sure to check the voltage of your vehicle’s battery as this may indicate it is running low.
