Beautiful yet rugged, the capable AT4 extends trucking capabilities with a refined design. A detailed profile and more luxurious options don't spoil this pickup because it is built to work wherever you take it. Efficient, responsive and powerful engines, including the available Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel and 6.2L V8 gas engines, help you get the job done.
Here, we compare the Sierra 1500 AT4 to the Chevy Silverado Trail Boss, two pickups that offer a tremendous amount of rugged style.
The 2021 GMC Sierra AT4 features the Multipro Tailgate
The industry-first six-position Multipro Tailgate extends the flexibility of the AT4. This special tailgate hinges like a normal tailgate, but it has a special inner tailgate that flexes from the main panel.
The design of the Multipro Tailgate allows for a host of functions. The load stop feature helps prevent items from sliding out of the box by unlatching the inside panel within the inner gate and folding it upright. The inner gate can also lower along with the main gate, allowing you to stand much closer to your load than with a standard tailgate. Other uses include a bed extender, a step, a laptop desk, and more to get the job done. The AT4 also has the available CarbonPro carbon-fibre composite bed.
The 2021 GMC Sierra AT4 goes diesel
When your work requires an efficient engine with plenty of torque, then the AT4 runs the table with the available 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel I6 engine. With an output of 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque delivered at a low 1,500 rpm, this diesel means business. It also pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission for enhanced performance while the engine maintains a fuel consumption rating of just 10.6 L/100 km in the city and 9.2 L/100 km on the highaway--the best rating in this comparison.
If you instead want to match the torque of the AT4's diesel, you'll have – for now in 2021 - to opt for a 6.2L V8 gas engine that raises fuel consumption to 15.7 L/100 km in the city and 12.4 L/100 km on the highway. This is still a good powertrain, but it does consume more fuel.
